Basic questions for Outdoor & Mobile sensors

Hello
We are a local association of citizens involved in the uptake of participatory process and data management for public space. We have just received our kits from the CitiObs project. We do have some basic questions, hopefully you can help us:

  • Outdoor kits. They arrived already assembled, inside the kit box there is a portative power battery. Shall we have it always connected (in case the power where the Outdoor kit shut down for example)?
  • Mobile kits (with gps). Not sure we fully understand how the data is collected, stored and finally uploaded to the platform. We registered it following the process we followed for the outdoor kits with wifi connection, meaning we declared the location from where we activated it. Now we do go for a ride with the device, what will happen. Data will be stored on the SD card? And will upload automatically when it will connect to a wifi network (and which network? The one from the home we initially activated the device?) ? Or should we do it manually (via the upload button on the platform)? Then on the map where will appear the device (pin)? In the initial location? What about the data collected during the ride?
Soory for the size of the text
Any input would be much appreciated.

Hi @vasilisfloudas

Thanks for writing in the forum.

Yes, they should always be connected: Features - Smart Citizen Docs for the stability of the device

This would be the place to check, and I respond to each question below: GPS - Smart Citizen Docs

Data will be stored on the SD card?

Yes, if the SD-card is present AND the device has time.

And will upload automatically when it will connect to a wifi network (and which network? The one from the home we initially activated the device?)

Yes, it will send it all to the platform if the WiFi configured on the device is available.

Or should we do it manually (via the upload button on the platform)?

Not necessary, but you can do so to save battery (having the device in offline mode). However, it’s not needed.

Then on the map where will appear the device (pin)? In the initial location? What about the data collected during the ride?

All the data will appear on the same pin, but there will be channels (columns on the data) that will represent GPS location such as lat, long, altitude, speed, etc. These will appear along with the other sensors. Then pin will not move unless you decide to do so.

Hope this helps!
