Couldn’t find any information about it. The first PLA enclosure I had broke down after a year of use outdoor. Somehow got myself a new one printed locally. All went fine until I had to screw in the M3s inside, I can’t understand how to do it. I tore down the first enclosure to salvage the M3 and their sockets, but how do I fit them into the holes? Are they meant to be hammered down? Screwed in? An step by step enclosure assembly would be a nice add for me and future printers.
Hi @AVB,
To remove the inserts from a previous enclosure and put it on a new one, you can use a soldering iron at 200degC (or a bit higher) to melt the PLA around them. Check this guide out, as its a very common technique in the 3D printing world. Threading 3D Printed Parts: How To Use Heat-Set Inserts | Hackaday
enclosures.smartcitizen.me needs some update, we’ll add some fixes shortly. If anyone wants to contribute, feel free to send a PR!
As a side note, the PLA version of the enclosure is not meant to be used by itself outdoors. It should be further protected with an additional cover, or made in a different material such as ABS or ASA, or even PETG. The box is defined to hold the electronics, but not so much to make the whole thing weather proof.
