hello,
installed my SCK in Greenland, Nuuk, just after the first snow appeared. see attached images.
after a bit more than a week of sending signals, where it has been working splendidly, and storing data into the SD card, it unfortunately stopped working, stopped giving signal.
I thought this could have been due to a snowstorm here in Nuuk, but the device nor the case designed for the SCK by SC was not wet, nor did it lose its attachment from the banister. Now it is just blinking blue fast (meaning; Error. Not collecting data).
the battery was fully charged. the minus temperature has been more extreme the week earlier before it broke, and during that time the SCK did not stop collecting data. I have tried to restart it, with the WiFi network, which did not work. If anyone has a tip on how I can continue, please reach out, as I am a bit nervous if the kit is broken, as I need it to work for a design project.
thank you! and cheers
Its not at all uncommon for Lithium (and other) batteries to have a minimum temperature where they are operable. Other electronic components, including the MCU also have such limits.
Seems to me you might have found out the limit for the system, hard to discern which particular component is failing first.
My response is basically supposition but its based on what I know to be true.
But your question is really what can be done about it.
- Accept the situation and put it to bed for the coldest months.
- Add a warming device to the enclosure as a whole and accept that temperature readings will be inaccurate.
- Assume its the battery, and apply a warming solution just for that part, and this might include mounting the battery in a separate warmed enclosure, or run the system from mains power supply.
